0.24.8 - Software Release - 11-25-2024

We're pleased to announce the release of MuteMe version 0.24.8. This update is a major release with big updates like multi-device support, support for MuteSync devices, found and fixed memory leak on macOS, updates to the auto firmware updater, and various other little bug fixes and user improvements.

#366 - Multidevice Support

Connect up to 8 MuteMe devices simultaneously, giving each participant in shared workspaces or conference rooms mute/unmute control. This feature ensures smoother, distraction-free meetings with enhanced audio control and clear LED status indicators. This change makes fundamental changes to how the application works and makes all types of other supporting changes to support this update.

To use Multi-Device Support, firmware updates may be required for setups with more than two devices. Learn more about setup and requirements here.

#362 - MuteSync Device Support

We’re thrilled to announce full support for MuteSync devices in MuteMe software version 0.24.8! With this release, MuteSync devices can now be used seamlessly with the MuteMe platform, eliminating the need for separate applications and unifying your experience under one powerful software solution.

To get started, simply download the latest MuteMe software and uninstall the MuteSync software from your computer. Running both applications simultaneously can cause conflicts, so it’s essential to remove the old MuteSync software before switching to MuteMe. Once you’ve completed this step, your MuteSync device will work immediately with the MuteMe software—no firmware updates required.

For detailed instructions on uninstalling MuteSync and setting up MuteMe, visit our MuteSync Transition Guide. If you have any questions or need assistance, our support team is ready to help ensure a smooth transition!

#365 - Updates to Firmware Updater

We’ve updated the automatic firmware updater to enhance stability and reliability. After extensive testing, we’ve made the high-speed firmware files the default, as they consistently deliver better performance. Additionally, we’ve adjusted how entitlements are handled on macOS to improve compatibility and ensure the updater functions more effectively in a wider range of scenarios.

#361 - Hotfix WebEx Integration

Due to recent updates on the WebEx platform, we implemented essential changes to the WebEx controller for both macOS and Windows. These updates address integration issues that some customers were experiencing, ensuring smoother and more reliable performance moving forward.

#242 - macOS Memory Leak

We’re excited to announce that we’ve resolved a long-standing memory leak in the macOS audio controller, which handles OS-level muting and unmuting. This issue affected nearly every macOS user, and we’re thrilled to have identified and fixed it. A heartfelt thank you to all the customers who provided feedback and data—your input was invaluable in helping us tackle this problem!

#367 - Advanced Color Option Bug Google Meet

We’ve fixed a bug related to syncing with Google Meet as a web-based controller. Previously, even when Google Meet was set to level three, our software’s checks would not clear the flag required to enable advanced color options. This issue has now been resolved, ensuring advanced color options work correctly when Google Meet is selected.

We're pleased to announce the release of MuteMe version 0.23.9. This update adds automatic firmware updates, support for Skype on Windows and fixes integration issues with Skype on macOS.  This release includes the updates from 0.23.4 for all users.

0.23.4 - Software Release - 07-28-2024 (Limited Release)

We're pleased to announce the release of MuteMe version 0.23.4. This update was only rolled out to about 10% of MuteMe users, the changes from the version will carry forward to version 0.23.9 for most users. This update adds automatic firmware updates, support for Skype on Windows and fixes integration issues with Skype on macOS.

#282 - Automatic Firmware Updates

MuteMe now supports automatic firmware updates. This means the software embedded within the device itself will be updated with minimal intervention from you. For example, fixes to improve touch response, power management and enhancements for better USB communication will automatically be applied. Follow the simple prompts to keep your device up-to-date and performing at its best. Click Here to learn more.

#330 - Chrome Extension Bug Fix

We have effectively addressed a Chrome extension bug that disrupted the synchronization of the mute button when resizing the screen. Previously, significant changes in window size would lead to elements shifting due to responsive web design, causing the Chrome extension to lose connectivity with the mute button element. This issue has been successfully rectified. The update will be automatically distributed to all users through the Chrome Web Store shortly, regardless of the MuteMe client version you currently have installed. The updated version is 1.6.2 updated from 1.6.0.

#261 - Add Skype on Windows

We now have level 3 support with Skype on Windows. This brings our support for Skype in line with what had already on macOS. Please share your feedback with us; it's invaluable in helping us verify that everything functions correctly outside of our testing environments.

#200 - Fix Skype on macOS

Skype had made some changes that broke the sync between MuteMe and Skype. This has now been fixed.   Please share your feedback with us; it's invaluable in helping us verify that everything functions correctly outside of our testing environments.

0.22.0 - Software Release - 05-19-2024

We're pleased to announce the release of MuteMe version 0.22.0. This update addresses and resolves two OS specific issues, and improves integration with WebEx Enterprise.

#353 - Windows Firewall Warning

Windows users previously received a warning when installing a new version of the MuteMe app, indicating that the app was trying to access the internet through the firewall. This warning was triggered because the app was listening for a port used to communicate with our Chrome MuteMe extension for Google Meet. We have implemented changes to clarify to Windows that we are not attempting to access an external port, thereby eliminating this warning. We understand this issue prevented some users from updating to the latest version of the app, but it should now be resolved.

#156 - MuteMe Would Only Open Via the Menu Bar on macOS

Previously, the MuteMe app would not open from the macOS Dock or the application screen if it was already running, due to settings associated with the tray icon that we implemented a while ago. We received feedback from users who were unsure how to access the settings since secondary click is disabled on modern Macs. Although we initially instructed users to open the app via the Menu bar, we realized a more user-friendly solution was needed. Now, when users click on the dock icon or attempt to run the app while it is already active, the app window will automatically open, simplifying access and improving usability.

#355 - Support for WebEx Enterprise

We've gained access to WebEx Enterprise—thanks to Cisco! As a result, we've made improvements to the Windows WebEx controller to enhance its integration. Please share your feedback with us; it's invaluable in helping us verify that everything functions correctly outside of our testing environments.

#348 - Zoom Controller Memory Leak Resolved

Following reports of a random memory leak potentially impacting the zoom controller, our development team has  implemented a fix. This should improve performance and use much less memory.

#349 - Non-Blocking Update Dialog

The software update dialog box no longer blocks application usage. This enhancement allows for silent or no-intervention software updates, significantly improving your experience by ensuring that update notifications are informative but not a blocking notification. This change also addresses discrepancies between macOS and Windows, offering a unified and improved experience across platforms with high level change logs now provided on both platforms. You should see this change the next time we have a software update.

#351 - Discord Integration Fix

Discord made some UI/UX changes. We've adjusted our software to accommodate the changes, ensuring that MuteMe's functionality remains consistent and reliable within Discord's ever-evolving interface.

0.20.1 - Software Release - 02-28-2024

#347 - General Bug Fixes

The previous version, 0.20.0, introduced a bug affecting the display of dialog boxes, leading to potential cascading crashes across various modules. MuteMe's architecture, which includes segmented modules for functions such as button communication, dialog box creation, operating system controllers, microphone usage detection, among others, were impacted by this issue. The identified bug could have affected performance on certain conferencing platforms and interfered with device firmware updates.

#346 - Now Using Teams API

In a recent update, Microsoft Teams rolled out changes in its latest version of Teams that have unfortunately disrupted the seamless integration with MuteMe for mute/unmute functionality. This modification has had a significant impact on other  users as well who are relying on accessibility features, including those using screen reading technologies. We've been working diligently to address these changes and ensure that MuteMe continues to provide the best possible experience for our users. Please update your MuteMe software to the latest version, designed to adapt to these recent changes in Microsoft Teams. This change is currently available for users on paid versions of Microsoft Teams, due to limitations in API support for the free version. We are continuing to fight to have accessibility and therefore support for free users restored. We value your feedback and would appreciate hearing from you.

#335 - Secondary Click Support for macOS Menu Bar

In the latest macOS updates, many computers now come with the secondary click function disabled by default. This change affected the accessibility of our application, as right-clicking on the menu bar icon didn't work. To address this, we've introduced a new feature: now, you can access our menu simply by holding the 'control' key and clicking on the microphone icon in the menu bar. This method aligns with common macOS practices and should be familiar to many users and is mentioned in our support articles and in macOS documentation.

Mic is use detection had been added a year ago with macOS Monterey and then updated with macOS Ventura, this is a quick fix to improve that feature to work even if you open the app in the middle of the mic already in use.

We had an issue with customers that were using the MuteMe app with the icon visible in the dock. The app was preventing the shutdown of the computer with this option selected. We also had an issue with customers who were trying to close the app while a Google Meet meeting was running. Both of these issues had to do with how the app was gracefully trying to shut down. Both have been resolved.

#Hotfix - Change in macOS Exit Icons

This is a UI change that has no impact to user but allows us to gracefully shut the app off.

0.17.4 - Software Release - 9-24-2023

#313 - Removing Feature Flag for Zoom Controller

In our quest to provide a seamless and error-free experience, we implemented a phased introduction of the new Zoom controller functionality to ensure everything was working correctly. However, this approach presented some challenges for certain customers. This is because some corporate networks restricted access to gitlab.com, the service we utilize for controlling feature flags. As a consequence, these restrictions led to synchronization issues within our software which resulted in issues with Zoom. This disables this feature flag function and everyone will have access to the new controller.

Special note for users: The GoTo Meeting app does not present mute/unmute controls to our software in the same manner as some other apps  so to control the meeting mute feature we have to bring the window to the foreground and meeting controls will not work if the app is hidden in the dock (mac) or tray (pc). It can however be behind other windows and work just fine.

#257 - Smart OS Level Muting

Under Microphone Settings we added an option to disable OS mute/unmute control when a meeting is detected. This feature is enabled by default to improve out of the box compatibility with certain hardware.  Some headsets did not know how to handle both OS level mute and application layer mute at the same time and would cause issues for users. If you wish to be double muted at both the OS and application levels you can uncheck the box under Microphone settings.  Double mute has been known to cause issues with certain hardware.
