Home "New" Microsoft Team Configuration

Welcome to the updated support guide for integrating MuteMe (version 0.20.0+) with The "New" Microsoft Teams. Our integration with Microsoft Teams is different than the integration with other platforms as we rely on the API exposed by Microsoft and not Windows and/or MacOS automation. This means that users have to perform an additional step for the integration to work and this integration is only available on paid plans from Microsoft.  When configured you should experience a seamless interactions between MuteMe and Microsoft Teams. This guide is here to assist you in configuring your application correctly to enjoy uninterrupted control over your mute/unmute status during your virtual meetings.

MuteMe App Setup:

Before integrating with Teams, ensure MuteMe is properly configured:

  • Open the MuteMe app and click on the gear icon to access settings.
  • Select App Sync Settings and adjust Teams to Level 3 for optimal functionality.
  • You will see a pop up as a guide for future reference to this page. After adjusting settings, click OK.

Microsoft Teams API Integration:

To enable MuteMe integration with Teams through the API, follow these steps:

  1. Connect your MuteMe device to your desktop and make sure you have completed the above steps.
  2. Open Microsoft Teams for desktop.
  3. Navigate to Settings and more (three horizontal dots next to your photo or initials in the top right corner) > Settings > Privacy.
  4. Scroll down and Select Manage API under Third-party app API section.
    • If Manage API is greyed out, update your teams client or check with your IT admin as third-party device pairing may be disabled.
  5. Enable the API toggle and close settings.
  6. Join a Teams meeting and press any button on your MuteMe device.
  7. A window will pop up asking to Allow or Block a new connection request. Select Allow to pair your device, enabling MuteMe to interact with Teams.

Note:

This integration only works with paid versions of Microsoft Teams. We regret any inconvenience caused by the lack of support for the free version and are diligently working on expanding our services to accommodate all users.

Video Walk Through:

Why are you doing things differently than before?

The MuteMe team has encountered a significant challenge due to recent updates by Microsoft to the Teams platform, which have disrupted the screen reading technology integral to MuteMe's synchronization with mute/unmute events. These changes, affecting specific versions of Teams (and soon to impact all users), have necessitated a pivot away from our reliance on screen reading towards utilizing Microsoft Teams' API for functionality—a solution currently limited to users on Teams' paid plans. This move, while a deviation from our inclusive technology approach, is essential for maintaining service continuity for a vast majority of our users amidst Microsoft's mandatory updates. We are actively engaging with Microsoft, hoping for adjustments that will restore accessible integration in the future, underscoring our commitment to accessibility and user experience across all Teams versions. We highly support users reaching out to Microsoft and making your voices heard.
