Multiple Device Support
Multi-Device Support (available in MuteMe software version 0.24.8 and above) enables up to 8 MuteMe devices to connect simultaneously. Perfect for conference rooms and shared workspaces, each participant gets their own dedicated mute/unmute control for seamless meeting management.
Why Multi-Device Support?
Managing mute/unmute in shared environments can be chaotic. Miscommunication, accidental interruptions, and unclear audio status often disrupt meetings. Multi-Device Support solves these challenges by giving each participant their own MuteMe device with independent control.
Personalized Control: Each participant gets their own device—no more shared mute buttons or centralized controls.
Clear Visual Indicators: LED lighting provides immediate feedback on mute status for everyone.
Distraction-Free Meetings: Minimize background noise and accidental interruptions.
Seamless Collaboration: Full microphone control without disrupting meeting flow.
Scalable for Any Room: From small huddles to large boardrooms—up to 8 devices in a single setup.
Getting Started
Setting up Multi-Device Support is straightforward. Ensure you're using MuteMe software version 0.24.8 or higher for full compatibility with firmware-upgraded devices.
Two Devices: No Setup Required
If you're only using two MuteMe devices (any combination of MuteMe Mini and Regular), simply connect them to your computer or USB hub. They'll work seamlessly together without firmware updates.
3-8 Devices: Firmware Update Required
For setups with 3 to 8 devices, you'll need either a preconfigured pack (ready to use out of the box) or to manually update the firmware on each device:
Firmware Update Steps
Step 1: Download Firmware
Visit the Firmware Updates section below and download the appropriate firmware file for each device (Device 1, Device 2, etc.). Each device needs its specific firmware.
Step 2: Enter Bootloader Mode
Connect your device directly to your computer with a high-quality, short (3ft or less) data cable. In the MuteMe application, go to Settings → Tools and click "Manual Firmware Update." Alternatively, use the Bootloader Tool on our Manual Firmware Updates page. The device should appear as "MuteMeBoot" on your computer.
Step 3: Install Firmware
Right-click the downloaded firmware file, select "Save Link As," and copy it directly to the MuteMeBoot USB device. Avoid saving to your computer first to prevent corruption (especially on macOS). Once copied, the device will restart automatically.
Step 4: Connect All Devices
After updating all devices, connect them to a powered USB hub. See the Power Requirements section below for important details about hub specifications.
Step 5: Verify Connections
Open the MuteMe application to verify all devices are recognized. Each device should light up and operate in sync, providing seamless mute/unmute control for every participant.
Preconfigured Packs
For the easiest setup, we offer preconfigured packs with firmware already installed and longer cables for conference room layouts. Just connect them to your powered USB hub and start using them immediately.
Power Requirements
Each MuteMe device can draw up to 500mA of power via USB for LED indicators and touch sensitivity. When connecting multiple devices, a standard USB port may not provide sufficient power.
Power Calculations
For 8 devices, your hub must deliver at least 4A (4000mA) of total power. Check your hub's specifications to ensure compatibility.
Hub Requirements:
- Connected to a stable power source
- Enough available ports for all devices
- High-quality USB cables to prevent voltage drops
Using a powered hub protects your computer's USB ports from overloading and ensures smooth functionality for all devices.
Firmware Updates
To enable Multi-Device Support, your devices need special firmware designed for conference room setups. This firmware allows up to 8 devices to function seamlessly together. It is not compatible with individual setups.
