Inicio "New" Microsoft Team Configuration

We offer Level 3 support for Microsoft Teams on both Windows and macOS. MuteMe can control your mute/unmute status and sync LED indicators with your Teams meeting state. For MuteMe app version 0.27.2 and later, the integration uses native operating system accessibility APIs for a seamless experience. For older versions, an API-based integration is available but will be deprecated by Microsoft in Summer 2026.

What's New in MuteMe 0.27.2+

Good news! As of MuteMe app version 0.27.2, we've introduced a new integration method for Microsoft Teams that doesn't rely on the deprecated API. This new approach uses your operating system's native accessibility features to provide a more reliable and seamless experience.

MuteMe now uses native operating system accessibility APIs to detect and control your Teams mute status. This means:

  • No API configuration required — No need to enable special settings in Teams
  • Works with free Teams — Unlike the old API which required paid plans
  • More resilient to updates — Works directly with Teams' UI elements
  • Seamless experience — Just press your MuteMe button and it works

MuteMe Settings (Version 0.27.2+)

After configuring your system (see below), adjust the MuteMe sync settings for Teams:

  • Open the MuteMe app and click on the gear icon to access settings
  • Select App Sync Settings and ensure Teams is set to Level 3 for optimal functionality
  • The integration will automatically detect when Teams is running and you're in a meeting

Microsoft Teams Settings for Windows (Version 0.27.2+)

For the best experience with MuteMe on Windows:

  • Ensure Microsoft Teams desktop app is installed (web version is not supported)
  • Make sure you're running an active meeting — MuteMe needs to detect the meeting window
  • If prompted, allow MuteMe to access screen content in Windows Privacy settings

Microsoft Teams Settings for macOS (Version 0.27.2+)

For the best experience with MuteMe on macOS:

  • Ensure Microsoft Teams desktop app is installed (not the web version)
  • Keep the Teams meeting window open for it to detect the sync.
  • Allow MuteMe to control your computer when prompted

macOS Security & Privacy Settings

For macOS users, please adjust your Security & Privacy settings to allow MuteMe to function correctly with Microsoft Teams:

  • Go to System Settings > Privacy & Security > Accessibility
  • Ensure MuteMe is selected and enabled in the list
  • If MuteMe isn't listed, click the + button and navigate to your Applications folder to add it
  • You may need to click the lock icon to make changes

For macOS Ventura and later:

  • Navigate to Apple Menu > System Settings > Privacy & Security > Privacy > Accessibility
  • Ensure MuteMe is enabled
  • Under Automation, confirm that MuteMe has access to control Microsoft Teams if prompted

Setup (Pre-0.27.2) - API-Based Integration

️ Important: The following instructions are for users running MuteMe app versions earlier than 0.27.2. If you've updated to version 0.27.2 or later, please follow the instructions above instead.

Older versions of MuteMe relied on a local third-party device API exposed by Microsoft Teams. This API is being deprecated by Microsoft and will stop working in Summer 2026. We strongly recommend updating to MuteMe 0.27.2+ to continue using Teams integration without interruption.

Why is the API being deprecated? Microsoft has stated they are deprecating this API due to security concerns and low adoption numbers. For more details, see our blog post about this change.

API Setup Instructions (macOS):

For macOS users running MuteMe versions earlier than 0.27.2, the old API integration is still available but will stop working when Microsoft deprecates the API.

  1. Connect your MuteMe device to your Mac and ensure the MuteMe app is running.
  2. Open Microsoft Teams for desktop.
  3. Navigate to Settings (click your profile picture) > Settings > Privacy.
  4. Scroll down and select Manage API under Third-party app API section.
    • If Manage API is greyed out or unavailable, your Teams version may have already removed this feature.
  5. Enable the API toggle if available and close settings.
  6. Join a Teams meeting and press any button on your MuteMe device.
  7. A window may pop up asking to Allow or Block a new connection request. Select Allow to pair your device.

API Setup Instructions (Windows):

For Windows users running MuteMe versions earlier than 0.27.2:

  1. Connect your MuteMe device to your PC and ensure the MuteMe app is running.
  2. Open Microsoft Teams for desktop.
  3. Navigate to Settings and more (three horizontal dots next to your photo or initials in the top right corner) > Settings > Privacy.
  4. Scroll down and select Manage API under Third-party app API section.
    • If Manage API is greyed out, update your Teams client or check with your IT admin as third-party device pairing may be disabled.
  5. Enable the API toggle and close settings.
  6. Join a Teams meeting and press any button on your MuteMe device.
  7. A window will pop up asking to Allow or Block a new connection request. Select Allow to pair your device.

API Note:

This API-based integration only works with paid versions of Microsoft Teams. We regret any inconvenience caused by the lack of support for the free version. Again, we strongly recommend updating to MuteMe 0.27.2+ which supports free Teams.

Video Walkthrough (API Setup):

The following video demonstrates the legacy API-based setup. For the new 0.27.2+ setup, no video is needed as there's no configuration required in Teams!

Why Did We Change Our Approach?

In early 2026, Microsoft announced they would be deprecating the local third-party device API that MuteMe and other hardware devices used for Teams integration. This API was originally designed for hardware integrations but is being removed due to security concerns and low adoption numbers.

Rather than leaving our Teams users without a working integration, we developed a new approach using native operating system accessibility APIs. This method:

  • ✅ Works with all versions of Teams (including free)
  • ✅ Requires no special configuration within Teams
  • ✅ Uses the same accessibility technology that screen readers and other assistive technologies use
  • ✅ Is more resilient to Teams updates since it works directly with the UI

For more details about this transition, please read our blog post about the Teams API deprecation.

We understand this is a different approach, but it provides a more reliable and accessible integration for all our users. We highly support users reaching out to Microsoft and making their voices heard about the importance of hardware integrations for accessibility and productivity.

Troubleshooting

MuteMe isn't responding during Teams meetings (0.27.2+)

  • Make sure MuteMe is connected and your Teams setting is enabled in the MuteMe app
  • Check that you have granted accessibility permissions to MuteMe (see macOS Security & Privacy Settings above)
  • Ensure Microsoft Teams is running with an active meeting
  • Try clicking the MuteMe button a couple of times to establish the connection
  • Make sure you're running MuteMe app version 0.27.2 or later (check in Settings > About)
  • On macOS: Ensure Teams meeting window is visible, not minimized to the dock
  • On Windows: Ensure Teams window is not minimized to the system tray

MuteMe LED isn't syncing with Teams mute state

  • Verify that Teams is in an active meeting (not just open)
  • Check that the MuteMe app is running in the background
  • Ensure Teams is set to Level 3 in MuteMe App Sync Settings
  • Restart both MuteMe and Teams if the issue persists

Accessibility permission prompts keep appearing (macOS)

  • Go to System Settings > Privacy & Security > Accessibility
  • Ensure MuteMe is toggled ON in the list
  • If MuteMe isn't listed, click the + button and add it from Applications
  • Under Automation, ensure MuteMe has access to control Teams

Can't find Manage API option in Teams (Legacy users)

  • Your Teams version may have already removed this feature
  • Update to MuteMe 0.27.2+ which doesn't require the API
  • Alternatively, update your Microsoft Teams client to the latest version
  • Contact your IT admin to check if third-party device pairing is disabled

Legacy API integration stopped working

  • Microsoft may have already disabled the API in your Teams version
  • Update to MuteMe 0.27.2+ for the new accessibility-based integration
  • The old API will stop working completely when Microsoft fully deprecates it in Summer 2026
