MuteMe support / Remove & reinstall
Completely remove.
Cleanly reinstall.
Start with a few checks before removing anything. If an app-data reset is still needed, use the Windows or macOS workflow below to remove the known app folders and reinstall. This is a troubleshooting step, not a guaranteed fix.
Save useful logs and note your preferences before a reset. You can contact support first, especially if the app will not open or the computer is managed by your organization.
Try this first
Check before you reset.
A blank window, crash or sync problem can have causes outside saved preferences. These checks preserve your setup.
-
Quit and reopen the app.
Leave your meeting, choose Quit MuteMe from its tray or menu-bar menu, then open it again. If it still crashes or shows a blank window, note when that happens and the exact message. Current MuteMe already disables hardware acceleration; the old special-beta workaround is not required.
-
Confirm the current build and setup.
Compare your version and operating system with Downloads. For a single meeting-app problem, check its setup guide, selected microphone and any macOS permission request before removing app data.
-
Save the evidence and your choices.
If the app opens, use Support → Report an Issue and review the log-attachment option. If it does not, use the manual log locations. Save logs before deleting their folder, and note your microphone, colors, integration levels and custom actions so you can restore them deliberately.
Choose your computer.
Both full workflows are below — jump straight to yours.
Windows
Uninstall the app, clear only its identified data folders, then reinstall.
macOS
Drag the app to the Trash, clear the Library settings folder, then reinstall.
Comfortable with the command line? Each workflow includes an optional script that removes the settings folders for you.
Before you start
What this reset does.
These steps clear the app data in the specific folders listed below. They do not reset device firmware, operating-system permissions or the settings inside your meeting apps.
Save logs and settings first. Uninstalling the app can leave local preferences behind. The reset below removes those preferences and operational logs from the named app-data folder. Copy anything needed for support or recovery before continuing, quit MuteMe completely and confirm each exact path. The optional commands assume the default installation and user-profile locations; do not use them for a custom or managed installation without checking with IT.
Workflow / Windows
Windows: remove and reinstall.
Use this workflow only after the checks above. It removes the normal per-user installation and its identified app-data folder. Managed MSI installations or custom profile locations may need your IT team’s procedure.
-
Quit the MuteMe application.
Choose Quit MuteMe from the system-tray menu. Closing the window alone may only minimize it.
-
Uninstall the app.
Open the Start Menu [Windows key], type add or remove programs, and press Enter.
-
Find MuteMe in the list.
Search the installed-apps list for MuteMe. Windows labels vary between versions; identify the MuteMe installation before choosing Uninstall.
-
Uninstall MuteMe-Client.
Click the Uninstall button next to MuteMe-Client, then press Uninstall again to confirm.
-
Clear only the identified MuteMe folders.
After uninstalling, inspect these exact locations. Back up the app-data folder outside its current location if you need its logs or settings, then remove only the named folder. A folder name merely containing “muteme” is not enough to identify a safe deletion target.
-
Default per-user installation:
%LOCALAPPDATA%\muteme_client -
App data, preferences and logs:
%APPDATA%\MuteMe-Client
-
Default per-user installation:
-
Reinstall the app.
Download the current MuteMe app and install the appropriate build. Reconfigure your microphone and integrations, then repeat a private mute test to see whether the original issue is resolved.
Optional: remove the folders from the command prompt.
These optional Command Prompt commands permanently remove the displayed folders and their contents. Uninstall first, save any needed logs and confirm that your paths match the defaults exactly. They do not adapt to relocated Windows profiles or custom installs. You can select and copy the command text manually if the Copy button is unavailable.
Workflow / macOS
macOS: remove and reinstall.
After the checks above, remove the Mac app and its identified app-data folder, then reinstall the build matching your Mac. Record any required permissions and integration choices before starting.
-
Quit the MuteMe Client application.
Choose Quit MuteMe from the menu-bar menu. Closing its window alone may leave the app running.
-
Uninstall the app.
Navigate to your Applications folder and uninstall the application by dragging the icon to your Trash.
-
Remove the settings folder.
In Finder, choose Go → Go to Folder and enter
~/Library/Application Support/MuteMe-Client. This reaches your user Library even when the Library folder is hidden. -
Back up, then clear the app data.
Copy this specific folder outside Application Support if you need its logs or settings, then remove the original MuteMe-Client folder. Do not remove unrelated files or folders from Library.
-
Reinstall the app.
Then reinstall the correct version of the software for your machine from the MuteMe Downloads page.
Optional: remove the preferences folder from Terminal.
This optional Terminal command permanently removes the displayed MuteMe-Client app-data folder, including its logs and preferences. Save anything you need first and confirm the path. It assumes the default app-data location. Select and copy the command text manually if needed.
After the reset
Reinstall, then check.
Install the correct current build, select your microphone and restore only the preferences you need for a basic test. Check both the meeting app’s mute state and the actual audio. If the same problem returns, preserve the new logs and tell support that you already reset the named app-data folder; repeating the reset is not a guaranteed solution.
