This support article is for both macOS and Windows users attempting to update their MuteSync button. As part of our ongoing support for the MuteSync device, we want to address a specific limitation regarding firmware updates.

Due to the use of an FTDI chip for USB communication in the MuteSync button, it does not support firmware updates. This limitation is due to the nature of the FTDI chip, which does not allow for the same type of firmware update process as other devices that use more flexible microcontrollers. As a result, MuteSync devices will remain on the firmware version they were originally shipped with.

While the device does not support firmware updates, it is our intention to continue supporting MuteSync devices for as long as possible. This includes addressing any issues that arise, providing compatibility with future software updates, and offering customer support through MuteMe's platform.

Although firmware updates are not available for MuteSync devices, we recommend the following solutions to ensure optimal performance:

Ensure Compatibility with MuteMe Software

Make sure that you are using the latest version of MuteMe software for the best possible compatibility with your MuteSync button. MuteMe is actively working to integrate MuteSync devices into the MuteMe ecosystem, ensuring a smooth transition and continued support.

Device-Specific Troubleshooting

If you are experiencing issues with the MuteSync button, such as connectivity problems or inconsistent behavior, try the following troubleshooting steps:

  • Ensure the MuteSync button is securely connected to a USB port.
  • Try connecting the device to a different USB port or use a USB hub to see if the issue persists.
  • Check for any conflicting software or other USB devices that might be causing interference.
  • Check the USB cable or the USB hub the device might be connected to. If it is a unpowered hub the devices connected to the hub might be drawing too much power.
