Set up Zoom with MuteMe

Keep the Zoom mute button and your MuteMe status in sync. Start with the Zoom desktop app, select the right microphone, and enable the integration in MuteMe.

Start with your microphone

  1. Keep both apps current

Install the current MuteMe app and Zoom Workplace desktop app. Connect your MuteMe device and keep the app running.

  2. Choose the same input

In Zoom, open Settings → Audio and select the microphone or headset you actually use. Select that same input in MuteMe’s microphone settings. Use Zoom’s microphone test before joining a call.

  3. If detection fails, check the app language

MuteMe’s existing Zoom guidance recommends English for integration troubleshooting. If another language does not sync correctly, test with Zoom set to English; do not assume every translated control is supported.

Zoom controls on Windows

Use these settings for Zoom’s Windows desktop app. MuteMe’s native Zoom integration is available on Windows and macOS; Zoom on Linux does not use the same Level 3 integration.

  1. Keep meeting controls visible

Open Settings → Meetings & webinars. Under In-meeting and in-webinar experience → Controls, turn on Keep meeting controls visible. Some releases use the label Always show meeting controls; use Settings search if the location differs.

  2. Check the mute shortcut

In Keyboard Shortcuts, find Mute/unmute audio or Mute/Unmute My Audio. Keep its default Alt + A shortcut and enable its global-shortcut option. If you customized it, restore that shortcut; restoring all defaults also resets your other Zoom shortcuts.

Zoom controls on macOS

Enable Keep meeting controls visible in Zoom’s meeting settings as described above. In Keyboard Shortcuts, use the default Command + Shift + A for mute/unmute and enable its global-shortcut option. Then complete MuteMe’s Accessibility permission below.

Allow MuteMe on your Mac

Use MuteMe’s guided request first. When MuteMe shows macOS Permissions Needed, select Grant Permissions and follow its prompts. MuteMe may restart automatically after Accessibility is granted.

If the guided flow directs you there, or access is still missing, open Apple menu → System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility and enable the installed MuteMe app. If it is missing, use the add button to select it from Applications.

Automation is separate. If MuteMe specifically requests it for a feature you use, follow that prompt. To review a missing or denied request, open Privacy & Security → Automation → MuteMe → System Events. You do not need to enable every entry or grant Screen Recording or Full Disk Access just for this integration. See the macOS permissions guide if access does not persist.

Turn on two-way sync

Open MuteMe settings and choose App Sync Settings. If Zoom is missing, select Modify, enable it, and return to the integration list. Expand Zoom and set Sync Level to Level 3 for two-way mute status. Keep the MuteMe app running.

Level 1 controls the microphone without keeping Zoom’s mute button in sync. Level 2 sends mute changes to Zoom but does not read changes made inside Zoom. Use Level 3 when you want both directions.

Check both directions

  1. Join a test meeting

Join computer audio and keep the meeting window open while testing. Toggle MuteMe and check that Zoom’s mute button follows.

  2. Test the Zoom button

Click mute and unmute inside Zoom and confirm your MuteMe status follows. Test in a private call before relying on the setup in a meeting.

  3. If only one direction works

Recheck Level 3, the selected microphone, meeting-controls visibility, and the global mute shortcut. On Mac, check Accessibility. Restart both apps if the problem began after an update. A host restriction can prevent you from unmuting; MuteMe cannot override meeting permissions.
