MuteMe · Setup & support
Set up MuteMe for Slack huddles.
Slack setup differs by operating system: Windows offers app-button sync, while macOS uses microphone-only control.
- Windows desktop
- Level 3 — Full Sync
- macOS desktop
- Level 1 — Microphone Sync
Choose the same microphone
Check Slack’s audio preferences
In Slack, open your profile picture menu, then Preferences → Audio & video → Microphone. Choose the microphone you intend to use. If you choose the system default, make sure your computer’s default input matches.
Check MuteMe’s microphone settings
Find that input under Connected Microphones in MuteMe and enable Control this microphone with MuteMe. On macOS, use the same system-default microphone in Slack for Level 1 control.
Windows: enable Full Sync
Open App Sync Settings
In MuteMe, open App Sync Settings. If Slack is missing from the enabled integrations, choose Modify next to Enabled App Integrations and enable it.
Choose Full Sync
Select Slack and set Sync Level to Level 3 — Full Sync. This mode is intended to keep MuteMe and the meeting app’s mute button in sync in both directions. Level 2 sends changes from MuteMe but does not track changes made with the app’s own mute button.
macOS: use microphone control
In App Sync Settings, enable Slack through Enabled App Integrations → Modify if needed, then choose Level 1 — Microphone Sync. Level 3 is not offered for Slack on macOS in the current MuteMe app.
Slack’s in-app mute button remains separate at this level. If Slack itself is muted, unmute it in Slack before using MuteMe to control your microphone.
Slack Level 1 does not by itself require Accessibility or System Events Automation. If another enabled MuteMe feature requests a permission, follow that prompt or see the macOS permissions guide.
Check a huddle before relying on it
Use a private huddle to confirm that muting with MuteMe stops your audio and unmuting restores it. On Windows at Level 3, also check that changing Slack’s mute button updates MuteMe. On macOS at Level 1, judge the result by the audio rather than expecting Slack’s button to change.
Some microphone drivers or virtual inputs do not support operating-system mute control. If audio continues while MuteMe indicates muted, stop and check the selected input and its support.
