Understand the MuteMe desktop app.

Use Downloads for current OS requirements and builds. The current published choices are Windows 10/11 64-bit, macOS 12+ with separate Intel and Apple Silicon installers, and Linux beta DEB/RPM packages. Linux does not have automatic app updates.

Older references to macOS Catalina, 32-bit builds and fixed installer sizes do not describe the current download selection. Exact disk, memory and CPU use depend on the release, enabled integrations and meeting apps; the old 2022 figures were not current benchmarks.

The desktop app combines an Electron interface with native operating-system and meeting-app integrations. Its mute/sync functions control microphone state and supported app controls rather than routing your call’s audio through MuteMe.

USB device communication supplies hardware input and status lighting. System microphone control depends on the audio device and driver; meeting-app integration levels differ. Review OS mute limitations and the platform setup guides for your configuration.

On macOS, follow MuteMe’s conditional Accessibility and Automation prompts for the enabled features. These permissions are not universally required together. USB accessory approval or firmware-volume access is a separate macOS task. See the permissions guide.

The normal Windows installer and the enterprise MSI deployment serve different installation needs. Your organization may restrict either, and MSI deployment needs the permissions documented in its guide. Do not bypass those restrictions.

Windows and macOS distribution use code-signing workflows, with notarization in the Mac build process. Signing does not guarantee that every security product or organization will permit a file; verify the expected publisher and source with IT.

App releases and integration fixes are documented in release notes; there is no fixed monthly-release guarantee. Set your preferred download/notification behavior in Software Update Preferences.

The app keeps local operational logs and sends diagnostic/usage information for product improvement and support. The current implementation uses OpenPanel. Review the performance-data preference and its limits; it is not a switch for every data flow.

The App Terms of Service and App EULA remain the governing published app documents.

The app uses JavaScript/TypeScript and native modules, including C++, Objective-C++ and platform-specific APIs. Core components include Electron, Node.js, HID/device communication, update tooling and operational logging. The codebase and dependencies evolve with releases.

The prior page’s 20,000-line count, 300 MB storage estimate, 90–130 MB download size, 4 GB RAM recommendation, 50–300 MB runtime estimates and 1.6 GHz dual-core recommendation were published in December 2022. Treat them as historical context, not a sizing or performance guarantee for current deployment. Test your intended meeting workload on your target machines.
