MuteMe · Setup & support
Keep Webex mute control in sync.
Match your microphone, enable the desktop integration and check both directions. If Webex keeps your microphone active outside a call, review its room-device discovery setting.

Match your microphone
In Webex’s audio settings, select the microphone you intend to use. If it follows the system default, confirm the default input on your computer. In MuteMe, find the same input under Connected Microphones and enable Control this microphone with MuteMe.
Check the desktop app
Use the Webex desktop app for the Windows or macOS integration described here. There is no additional Webex-only sync switch to enable for this setup; configure the microphone and MuteMe’s Sync Level below.
If your organization manages Webex, check with IT before changing its installation or room-device settings.
macOS: follow the permission prompt
Follow any macOS permission prompt
If MuteMe shows macOS Permissions Needed, choose Grant Permissions and follow the Accessibility instructions. Allow MuteMe to restart after new Accessibility access is granted. For a previously declined permission, use the macOS permissions guide.
Enable Webex Full Sync
Open App Sync Settings
In MuteMe, open App Sync Settings. If Webex is missing from the enabled integrations, choose Modify next to Enabled App Integrations and enable it.
Choose Full Sync
Select Webex and set Sync Level to Level 3 — Full Sync. This mode is intended to keep MuteMe and the meeting app’s mute button in sync in both directions. Level 2 sends changes from MuteMe but does not track changes made with the app’s own mute button.
Microphone active outside a meeting?
Webex can use ultrasound to discover nearby room devices. That can keep the microphone in use even when you are not in a call, which may also trigger MuteMe’s microphone-use detection.
If you do not use that discovery feature, review Settings → Devices → Automatically connect; some Webex versions place the option in Advanced settings. Read our Webex microphone-detection guide. Keep required corporate room features enabled unless your IT team advises otherwise.
Test and troubleshoot
Join a private meeting. Mute and unmute with MuteMe, then with Webex’s own button. At Level 3, check both indicators and confirm the audio in both directions. Try the window arrangement you normally use.
If sync differs, recheck the microphone, Level 3 and any macOS Accessibility prompt. Compare your MuteMe app version with the Downloads page.
Using Webex 44.10 or following an older guide?
The September 2024 notice on this page reported a problem with Webex 44.10. That is a historical compatibility report, not a claim that every current Webex version is affected. Include your exact Webex and MuteMe versions when reporting a continuing problem.
