Troubleshooting an affected legacy device

Before you start

This support article is for Mac users who need to update the firmware on a legacy MuteMe device from batch 001–003. If you are on Windows, follow the Windows firmware update instructions instead.

The update disables the transition flash that was on by default (the slight flash when pressing and releasing the button). It can be enabled again at a later time, pending changes made to the software. The update also resolves the rotating RGB LEDs that were on by default — they now turn off after 10 seconds if the device is not connected with the software.

  • You have a legacy MuteMe device from batch 001–003 — check the batch number on the bottom of the device.
  • If your device is working well with the first firmware, do not proceed to download the older firmware.

Update your firmware

  1. Open Terminal. Press Command + Spacebar, type terminal.app (without the quotation marks), and open it under Applications.
  2. Download the updating script, make it executable, and run it. Copy and paste the following into your terminal, pressing Enter after each line:
    curl -o MuteMeFlash.sh 'https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0522/8127/8617/files/MuteMeFlash.sh?v=1656664693'
    chmod +x MuteMeFlash.sh
    bash MuteMeFlash.sh
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions. When the update finishes, your device is running the latest legacy firmware.
