This page exists to help FaceTime users configure the application correctly.

MuteMe has Level 3 sync on macOS for FaceTime, meaning full support for both mute/unmute control and LED status synchronization. MuteMe can control the mute/unmute status regardless of the window being in the foreground or the background. Note that FaceTime support is not available on Windows.

FaceTime is not available on Windows. MuteMe does not currently support FaceTime on Windows devices.

FaceTime Settings for macOS

There are no application specific settings that are required for FaceTime on macOS.

FaceTime Default Microphone

Ensure FaceTime is configured to use the correct microphone as its default input device. This setting ensures that MuteMe can properly control your mute status.

  • Open FaceTime and click on FaceTime in the menu bar > Settings (or Preferences)
  • Under the Microphone section, ensure your preferred microphone is selected
  • If using an external microphone or MuteMe, make sure it is set as the system default in System Settings > Sound > Input

macOS Security & Privacy Settings

For macOS users, please adjust your Security & Privacy settings to allow MuteMe to function correctly with FaceTime:

  • Go to System Settings > Privacy & Security > Accessibility
  • Ensure MuteMe is selected and enabled in the list
  • If MuteMe isn't listed, click the + button and navigate to your Applications folder to add it
  • You may need to click the lock icon to make changes

For macOS Ventura and later:

  • Navigate to Apple Menu > System Settings > Privacy & Security > Privacy > Automation
  • Ensure MuteMe is listed and has access to control System Events and FaceTime
  • If MuteMe isn't listed, start FaceTime, and our software will request the necessary permissions when required

MuteMe Settings

After configuring FaceTime and your system settings, adjust the MuteMe sync settings:

  • Open the MuteMe app and click on the gear icon to access settings
  • Select App Sync Settings and ensure FaceTime is set to Level 3 for optimal functionality
  • Use the slider to change FaceTime sync from Level 1 to Level 3
