Completely Remove and Reinstall
This super article is intended to help those Windows and macOS users that are experiencing issues with their MuteMe software and need to completely remove and reinstall the software. This step is also used by our technical support teams to alleviate some non-specific settings issues that users may have.
Issue:
We decided to put out steps that any user can follow to quickly remove all MuteMe related settings from a computer and reset the software to an original state.
Windows Solution:
We are thinking of making our own uninstaller application that will completely remove the applications from the computer but at this time we have just decided it's just easier to follow the steps below due to the limited nature of issues.
- Quit the MuteMe Application completely ensure its no longer in the system tray.
- Uninstall our application by going to the Start Menu [Windows Key] and typing in "add or remove programs" and then press enter.
- Use the search feature to find our application in the box that says "Search this list"
- Type in MuteMe and press [Enter].
- Click on the Uninstall Button Next to MuteMe-Client and then press uninstall again.
- Then Navigate to:
- C:\Users\{YOUR USERNAME HERE}\AppData\Local\
- Remember to replace your user name in the above location.
- Find any folder with the word muteme_client or muteme and delete them.
- Then Navigate to:
- C:\Users\{YOUR USERNAME HERE}\AppData\Roaming\
- Remember to replace your user name in the above location.
- Do the same as before, find any folder with the word muteme_client or muteme and delete them.
- Then open your browser and navigate to:
downloads.muteme.com and download and install the latest version of our application. It should now work.
If you are familiar with using the Windows command prompt, you can employ the following script to swiftly delete the preferences folder and the install folder. We reccomend first uninstalling the application then running these scripts. Please note that this script assumes all installations were made using the default settings.
This first script removes the preferences folder.
This second script removes the default install folder.
MacOS Solution:
- Quit and exit out of the MuteMe Client application completely. Make sure its no longer in the system tray.
- Navigate to your applications folder and uninstall the application by dragging the icon to your trash can.
- Navigate to: Macintosh HD\Users\{YOUR USERNAME HERE}\Library\Application Support\MuteMe-Client
The Library folder may be hidden, press Command + J on your keyboard when in your username folder and check the box to show the library folder. - Delete the contents of the folder or delete that entire folder.
- Then navigate to downloads.muteme.com and reinstall the correct version of the software for your machine.
If you are familiar with using the macOS terminal, you can utilize the following script to efficiently delete the preferences folder. Please note that this script assumes all installations were made using the default settings.
